Short Term Rentals

About Short Term RentalsProperty owners whom intend to rent their residential dwelling, or an individual bedroom in their residential dwelling, to provide lodging for transient guests in exchange for compensation for a period of time not to exceed 180 days are required by the City of Chamblee to obtain a Short-Term Rental Certificate and an Occupational Tax Certificate to operate. Please use the links below to begin your licensing process.

How to Apply for a Short-Term Rental Certificate: 

Step 1: Apply for Occupational Tax Certificate
Begin the process of applying for an Occupational Tax Certificate by visiting the Online Business License Portal.  Your Occupational Tax Certificate will be valid through December 31 and must be renewed annually if you are operating a Short-Term Rental in Chamblee.

Step 2:  Apply for a Short-Term Rental Certificate
Begin the process of applying for a Short-Term Rental Certificate by visiting the Short-Term Rental Certificate Application page.  Click on the tile that states “Apply for STR Certificate”.  Review the application requirements before beginning the process. Once you have obtained all the required documents, click the continue link at the bottom of the page.

Step 3:  Payment
Once a complete application has been submitted, you will be instructed to make the payment for the certificate.  The nonrefundable Short-Term Rental Certificate application fee is $250.00 and can be paid online via credit card or via a mailed check. 

Step 4:  Application Review
Once a complete application has been submitted and application fee has been paid, the information and required documents will be reviewed by the Revenue and Licensing Officer. The city has 15 days to review the application to make sure that the applicant meets the conditions and requirements set forth by the Chamblee Short-Term Rental Ordinance.

Step 5: Short-Term Rental Certificate Issuance
Once payment has been received, you will be emailed a copy of your Short-Term Rental Certificate.  Your certificate will be valid for one year from the date of issuance and must be posted within the Short-Term Rental location.  You will also need to provide your Short-Term Certificate number on all of your online postings advertising your rental.
