The City of
Chamblee Planning and Development Department is expanding options for
individuals to submit permits and plans electronically while also allowing some
remote inspections. These efforts come amid the city’s fight to slow the spread
of COVID-19 to the maximum extent possible. These new options will go into
effect beginning Wednesday, April 1st.
The new expanded inspection processes will ensure that all construction projects currently underway in the city can continue without interruption, and new projects can be initiated while city offices are closed to the public. Already a paperless department, the Planning & Development Department currently accepts all applications via email and some applications through an online application portal. The new, expanded portal is enhanced allowing for additional permit-type submittals, which also will let individuals track the application process, pay fees and schedule inspections in real time.
At the same time, the department will begin allowing and encouraging, all single-family renovation projects to participate in the newly created Remote Video Inspections (RVI) Program. Eligible permit types include: interior and exterior renovations to existing single-family homes, residential accessory structures, component permits for residential structures including hot water heater, plumbing, electrical and HVAC permits. The full details of the program will be made available on the Permits and Inspections page of the Planning & Development Department’s webpage: https://www.chambleega.com/157/Permits-Inspections prior to April 1st. This new program will allow inspections to occur remotely using mobile devices and helps limit the amount of individuals entering occupied homes in the city.
