Chamblee Receives APA Award for Public Outreach

APA Award 2

October 3, 2018—The Georgia Chapter of the American Planning Association recently presented the City of Chamblee with the Outstanding Public Outreach and Journalism award for community engagement efforts for the Peachtree Road Streetscape and Rail Trail Concept Plan.

The plan was part of a project to develop a design for the roadway, sidewalk, signage and amenities along the Peachtree Road corridor in downtown Chamblee, as well as determine the best design solutions for five extensions of the Chamblee Rail Trail, also located in the downtown area.

The award recognizes the city’s community engagement efforts in gathering public input, which included the Mid-City Stroll event in the fall of 2017, where the city collaborated with local businesses along the Peachtree Road and Rail Trail corridors to create a street festival. The Mid-City Stroll also highlighted the proposed improvements through tactical urbanism demonstration projects that allowed people to experience the corridor as it exists today as well as provide input on the proposed changes.
