Downtown Renaissance Plan

Downtown Renaissance Plan & Mural Art Program

In the summer of 2015, the City of Chamblee was invited to participate in the Georgia Downtown Renaissance Fellowship, a partnership of the Georgia Municipal Association, the Georgia Cities Foundation and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government and the College of Environment and Design. City staff and the Chamblee Downtown Development Authority (DDA) worked with senior UGA landscape architecture student to create design options for Chamblee’s historic commercial business district Peachtree Road. You may view the plan here.

One aspect of the plan was to incorporate public art in highly visible areas. The City would like to improve existing infrastructure - walls and bridges, etc. - with a series of art installations. The next location is in partnership with MARTA and will be located along Peachtree Road near its split with Peachtree Boulevard. Michael Jones was selected as the artist to create the mural on this wall, which is expected to be completed by April 1, 2017. Examples of Mr. Jones' work may be found here.
