CHAMBLEE POLICE RAID GAMBLING OPERATION

Released May 16, 2007

On Tuesday morning, May 15, 2007, at approximately 1:45 a.m., the Chamblee Police Department raided an apartment where a gambling operation was apparently in operation.

Acting upon a tip received by the Doraville Police Department, Chamblee and Doraville officers went to 3572 Shallowford Road. Upon approaching the building, two lookouts on the second floor started running to the rear of the building and yelling warnings. The open front door was quickly shut as officers approached. The officers that pursued the individuals to the rear of the building found the rear door open. Inside the apartment, officers could see several gaming tables with gambling paraphernalia and cash scattered about the room. When the officers entered the building they found a large number of individuals scattering and attempting to hide under beds and in the shower, etc.

Ultimately, twenty one (21) individuals were identified in the apartment, 20 males and 1 female. The cash scattered about totaled over $24,000 and was taken as evidence along with the gambling paraphernalia. None of the individuals present would admit to leasing the premises or being responsible for it.

The investigation is on-going and charges are pending.
