Chamblee Main Street

Established in 1980 as a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the National Main Street Center, Inc. works with a nationwide network of coordinating programs and local communities to encourage preservation-based community revitalization, and has equipped more than 2,000 older commercial districts with the skills, and organizing framework they need for renewal during its 35-year history.

The Georgia Main Street Program began in 1980 as one of the original pilot state coordinating programs of the National Main Street Initiative launched by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The program launched with five local communities and has grown to serve 100+ communities statewide. Georgia Main Streets represent some of the strongest central business districts in the state and in the Southeast.

Chamblee first became a Classic Main Street city in 2015 and has received its official 2016 accreditation. Chamblee Main Street is a partnership between the City of Chamblee and the Chamblee Downtown Development Authority (DDA). The DDA Board serves as the Main Street Board. The program is administered by the City's Economic Development Manager. A Main Street Committee serves as a incubator of ideas and source of volunteer help, and is comprised of business owners, residents, and anyone that wants to see Downtown Chamblee thrive. If you are interested in participating in the Main Street Committee, please fill out the volunteer form and return it to .

Downtown Renaissance Plan & Mural Art Program

In the summer of 2015, the City of Chamblee was invited to participate in the Georgia Downtown Renaissance Fellowship, a partnership of the Georgia Municipal Association, the Georgia Cities Foundation and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government and the College of Environment and Design. City staff and the Chamblee Downtown Development Authority (DDA) worked with senior UGA landscape architecture student to create design options for Chamblee’s historic commercial business district Peachtree Road. You may view the plan here

One aspect of the plan was to incorporate public art in highly visible areas. The City would like to improve existing infrastructure - walls and bridges, etc. - with a series of art installations. The next location is in partnership with MARTA and will be located along Peachtree Road near its split with Peachtree Boulevard.
