May 6th- The Mike Veal Band mike veal.jpg

The Summer Concert Series returns to Chamblee on May 6th as we welcome The Mike Veal Band!  Join us for our first Saturday concert in downtown Chamblee during which we will also celebrate the Chamblee Charter High School Centennial. We expect a lot of Blue and Gold in the audience- and the Chamblee Charter High School Jazz Band will kick off the evening with a performance at 6:30!

Bring your appetite- The Mad Italian and the Grubbin' Out food truck will be serving throughout the evening.  While you're here, you can also grab a beer at the Mad Italian beer tent.

About the Band- The Mike Veal Band plays a hot combination of blues, rock, funk and fun! Diverse musical backgrounds and regional influences color each member's contribution to the tight sound for which the band is loved.

Born and raised in the heart of the deep south, Lead Vocalist Mike Veal is no stranger to the blues. As a child living in the towns of Milledgeville and Macon in south Georgia, Mike was strongly influenced by area musicians and singers whose lives and songs reflected the true origins of American Blues. As he grew, Veal found himself drawn to the soulful voices of Otis Redding, James Brown and Gregg Allman. Those early influences still strongly color Mike's style today. At 16, Mike started singing professionally with Sansara Show Band, and later worked with Johnny Rivers, and Gary Puckett and the Union Gap. Today, working with long-time friends and bandmates, Mike consistently delivers 110% on stage, believing "you should never do a song you can't lose yourself in".

June 2nd- Big Sam's Funky Nation
and
Blair Crimmins and the Hookers

BSFN web.jpgBig Sam's Funky Nation

B
ig Sam’s Funky Nation is a driving force of urban funk. Ryan White, of th
e Oregonian, says the band is “tight enough (and hot enough) to turn coal into a diamond!” The band is led by trombone powerhouse, Big Sam Williams, formerly the trombonist for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, who the San Francisco Chronicle calls “the top man on the slide trombone in the birthplace of jazz.” Big Sam refuses to let the audience sit still. Between the band’s solos, Big Sam’s signature dance moves and his distinctive trombone riffs, the energy level is high voltage when this band takes the stage!

Blair Crimmins and the Hookers
BLAIR CRIMMINS c.jpg

Blair Crimmins began his current music career in Atlanta, Georgia, with a determination to bring Ragtime and 1920’s style Dixieland Jazz to new audiences. While playing small rock clubs around the Southeast he developed a sound that is at once modern while being deeply rooted in the past. Now four years, and five hundred shows later, he has toured the country playing large venues and has opened for acts such as Mumford & Sons and Preservation Hall Jazz Band. A multi-instrumentalist and music academic, Crimmins writes songs and arrangements for a classic New Orleans style horn section consisting of trumpet, clarinet and trombone. His debut 2010 release The Musical Stylings Of became a college radio sensation on WRAS Atlanta making him the most requested band on the air.  In 2012 Crimmins showed his musical diversity by writing and recording the full score for the independent short film “Old Man Cabbage”. The following year, Crimmins was the critics pick for Best Song Writer of 2013 in Creative Loafing’s Best of ATL issue.  His last album entitled Sing-a-longs! went to #21 on the EuroAmerican radio chart and earned him a nomination at The Georgia Music Awards for Best Jazz Artist.  Blair Crimmins has now released his anticipated 4th studio album You Gotta Sell Something.  The band will be touring through 2017 performing their newest songs from the record as well as old favorites from his past recordings.

From pop melodies to extended jams, The Bitteroots’ sets run the gamut with something for everybody.
