About the Committee
Chamblee Parks and Recreation has a Recreation Advisory Committee (RAC) made up of six City of Chamblee residents (may have up to two non-residents). The RAC serves as a voice for the Chamblee Parks and Recreation staff, both in bringing in ideas from the community as well as disseminating information to the community.

RAC members also serve as first-string volunteers when planning and implementing community events. Each RAC member serves a two-year term that is eligible to be renewed at the end of two years if there are not others waiting to join the committee at that time.

Ryan Florio
Ryan Florio was born and raised in Chicago and graduated from Northwestern University, where he met his wife, Elizabeth, a Chamblee native. He worked in Atlanta for a year before attending law school in Miami. After law school, Ryan moved back to Atlanta where he and Elizabeth bought a home in Ashford Park. They have lived there for 5 years. After participating in the Nancy Creek Primitive Baptist Cemetery clean-up on Halloween in 2015, Ryan was inspired to become more involved with the city. He looks forward to being a liaison between his neighborhood and the Chamblee Parks & Recreation Department.

Ryan has a strong desire to help Chamblee grow and improve. Although he is a Chicago native, he married into a Chamblee family. His wife and her three 3 siblings grew up in Chamblee and attended Chamblee High School. His late father-in-law, Steve Westby, was extensively involved in the school and baseball program, so much so that they named the baseball field after him. He hopes to watch his own son (also named Steve) play on that field in the future.

Ryan is currently an attorney at a national civil litigation defense firm and has experience interpreting city ordinances, working with city attorneys, and reviewing parks and recreation projects. He is a board member of the local Northwestern University alumni club and assists in organizing and hosting various activities and events. He also has experience in youth athletics, including coaching basketball camp and little league baseball.

Kelly Hughes
kellyhughes.jpgKelly Hughes is a resident of Huntley Hills who has also lived in many different places including Minnesota and Colorado which are leading states in terms of built environment infrastructure and active living and most recently Decatur, which is a great small city example in Georgia.

Professionally, Kelly has worked as a clinical dietitian in a hospital for years, earned her MPH at Emory where she focused a lot of her studies on built environment, worked at CDC for several years in community health, also did a two year assignment at the Minnesota Department of Health in community health improvement, and currently works from home for a national network non-profit organization, managing their CDC portfolio.

Kelly’s interests include increasing accessibility to and availability of spaces where people can buy healthy food and be physically active; providing opportunities for community members to connect, get to know each other, and have fun; improving the health of residents; increasing infrastructure for walking and biking; decreasing car dependency through trail connectivity, and putting Chamblee on the map - making it a city that everyone wants to live in!
