Plan Review
SAFEbuilt Georgia (770) 817-0830 is currently under contract with the city to provide plan review services by qualified and ICC certified plan reviewers. In general, the maximum amount of time required for plan review is three to six working days for single-family residential projects and light commercial construction. New construction for large or mixed-use projects may take between 10 to 20 days. Plans for commercial projects must be approved by the DeKalb County Fire Marshal's office prior to submittal to the city for review.
Building Inspections
Building codes are established to provide minimum standards for safeguarding life or limb, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction, quality of materials, use and occupancy, location and maintenance of all buildings and structures.
Building inspection is the method by which the City ensures that construction work is conducted in compliance with the Georgia State Minimum Standard Codes as well as approved plans.
Inspection requests called in by 2:00 pm are generally scheduled for the following work day. All requests for inspections are scheduled by contacting the Permits & Inspections Office at (770) 986-5024.
Building Inspectors:
Pursuant to the Official Code of Georgia Annotated (O.C.G.A.) Section 8-2-26.1, the building inspectors employed by the City of Chamblee are deemed to be Qualified Inspectors, as defined by said code section, for the inspections they are assigned to perform.
The inspectors with SAFEbuilt Georgia are under contract to the City to provide inspection services. Inspections are scheduled daily except for weekends and holidays as observed by the city. In addition to providing daily inspections, the city makes every attempt to arrange meetings, consultations and courtesy inspections as needed within a convenient and reasonable time frame.
DeKalb County Fire Marshal Inspections
By means of a Service Agreement, plan review and inspections for Life Safety Codes and ADA requirements are provided by the DeKalb County Fire Marshal's Division, located at 330 West Ponce de Leon Avenue, 2nd Floor, Decatur, Georgia 30030.
