Types of Permits Required
Generally, permits are required for all residential and commercial new construction, additions and renovations. Permits are required for demolition (interior and building), electrical work, low voltage wiring, heating and air conditioning, plumbing, permanent signs, temporary signs, fences, accessory buildings and tree removal. Accessory structures such as: sheds, decks, porches, patio rooms, detached garages, swimming pools and greenhouses must be permitted. Permits are required for installation, alteration or replacement of any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system (i.e. hot water heater, furnace, air conditioning unit, electrical panel or service) which is regulated by technical Codes adopted by the City of Chamblee.
Permit Required Checklist
Note: All new construction, major re-development/renovation and expansion of existing structures must be approved for zoning and site development prior to permitting. Contact the City Development Director for information, application forms, instructions and schedules.
Permitting Hours
Permits generally are issued between 9:00am - 11:30am and between 1:30pm - 4:00pm. Call in advance (770-986-5024) if you need to make other arrangements.
Directions to City Hall/Permits Office
From I-285 (north), exit at Peachtree Industrial Blvd. South. Travel south about one mile on Peachtree Industrial Blvd. (becomes Peachtree Boulevard in city limits). At traffic light in front of Chamblee Plaza/Curry Honda, turn left onto Broad Street. At the end of Broad Street, turn right onto Peachtree Road (at stop sign). City Hall/Permits Office is second building on the right.
Permit Application Forms and Fees
Permit applications may be downloaded from this website (see Forms) or obtained from the Permits Department at City Hall. Contractors must provide copies of current State certifications (General Contractor, Trade Contractor or Specialty Contractor) and company business license with the application form. Review the permit instructions for plan submittal requirements. Upon approval of plans and application, payment of the permit fees is accepted by cash, check or by credit (in person only).
