If you are interested in being a part of Chamblee’s oral history project, please let us know. We have two upcoming interview sessions at the Chamblee library. One is March 15th from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm and one April 16th from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. These audio and video interviews will be used to create a video of Chamblee memories. The Taste of Chamblee and Garden Tour is the Place to be on May 31st
The City of Chamblee invites you to join in the continued commemoration of their Centennial with a day of on May 31st. Festivities begin with a tour of the Backyard Wildlife Habitat gardens in the Huntley Hills neighborhood. This tour will also feature artists from the Chamblee Arts Alliance demonstrating their wares and talents in various gardens throughout the tour. Tours begin at 9:00am and end at 3:00pm. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at Ashe-Simpson Garden Center on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard before the tour or at 3747 Longview Drive on the day of the tour. Please contact Kay Packard with any questions at 770-451-6079 or kpackard@bellsouth.net.
After the tour of the gardens, be sure to join us for the downtown street festival, The Taste of Chamblee, from 4:00pm-8:00pm. Vintage Pizza and The Bistro will host an outdoor beer garden, and you’ll also be able to enjoy food samples from Chamblee’s own restaurants, such as Beyond the Bayou, Galla’s Pizza, China Inn, Maison Robert Chocolates, Pig-N-Chik BBQ, Frank Ma’s Dinho Chinese Restaurant, and more. Entertainment will be provided by various street performers, including a mariachi band and Chinese lion dancers. Live music will be performed by a steel drum and percussion trio, beginning at 4:00pm, followed by MisConduct, Atlanta’s own bluesy-rock band with a repertoire of well known songs from the 60’s and 70’s from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Especially for the youngsters, kids won’t want to miss the chance to check out the live snake exhibit and get their photos with alligators! Visit www.snakesrus.com to get a preview of this fabulous show.
A silent auction benefiting Special Olympics Georgia will be included in the festivities, and provides a great opportunity to give back to our community. Items up for auction include original artwork and gift certificates for local businesses, as well as a hand-woven Persian rug valued at more than $600. Don’t miss your chance to make a bid for a good cause.
The Taste of Chamblee is free to enter and tickets for food samples will be on sale at the festival. See you at the party!
