Taxes

The City provides resident homeowners with a $30,000 homestead exemption. The exemption is automatically applied once a homeowner applies with DeKalb County for their county homestead exemption.

The City offers its resident homeowners age 65 and over a senior homestead exemption. If all qualifications are met, the senior homeowner will be totally exempt from city taxes and regular sanitation fees. In order to qualify you must meet the following basic requirements:

  1. All parties listed as owners on the deed must be 65 years or older.
  2. You must have a current homestead exemption on your property designating it as your primary residence.
  3. You must be able to supply proof of age (Driver's License or other identification) for all owners listed on the deed.
  4. You must apply for this exemption in the first quarter of the year by filling out a simple form in person at City Hall, 5468 Peachtree Road.

The City also offers any resident homeowner who is totally disabled an exemption from city taxes and regular sanitation fees. In order to qualify you must provide a copy of the certificate of disability given by Social Security.
