Permits & Fingerprinting

The Chamblee Police Department Records Section issues Alcohol Handling and Taxi Driver permits and provides fingerprinting services Monday through Friday between the hours of 1:00 P.M. and 3:00 P.M.

Fingerprinting

Applicant fingerprinting can be required for a variety of reasons such as adoptions, child care providers, bar exams, bankers, etc. Effective June 1, 2006, the purchase of a new Live Scan fingerprint system allows us to take fingerprints with out the use of messy ink. Most individuals needing applicant fingerprints will be provided the fingerprint cards by their employer or prospective employer.

The fee for fingerprinting is as follows:

  • First card - $10.00
  • Each Additional Card - $5.00
  • Maximum per person charge - $25.00

Alcohol Handling Permits

Employee Alcohol Handling Permits are required for the following individuals working in Chamblee:

  • Any employee of a package licensee whose primary business is the sale of alcoholic beverages.
  • Any employee of a package licensee who sells alcoholic beverages in a convenience store or service station.
  • Any employee of a consumption on the premises licensee who serves or works in the serving area, including bar or lounge area of the licensed premises, and sells, serves, takes orders for, or handles alcoholic beverages.

The applicant must submit an application to the police department, submit to a criminal background check and present a government-issued picture ID. The permit costs $25 and is good for two years at any Chamblee business. The application can be obtained at the police department or from this web site.

Taxi Driver's Permit

Taxi Driver Permits are required for any person picking up passengers in the City of Chamblee and accepting or soliciting any consideration, charge or fee which is determined by agreement, by mileage, by the length of time the vehicle is used, or by contract for the use of any motor vehicle or other vehicle designed or used for the purpose of transporting passengers.

The applicant must submit an application to the police department and meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be a citizen of the United States or an alien admitted for permanent residence or who has otherwise been granted employment authorization by the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service
  • Exhibit a proficiency with the English language so as to be able to comprehend and interpret traffic signs, issue written receipts to passengers and obey lawful orders of police and others in lawful authority
  • Submit to and pass a criminal background check

Application must be accompanied by the following:

  • A letter from the Taxi Company requesting issuance of a driver's permit to the named individual
  • A valid Georgia Drivers License
  • A copy of his/her current driver's history
  • Proof of insurance on the vehicle he/she will be operating

Taxi Driver Permits cost $100.00 and must be posted on the dash or sun visor of the vehicle being driven so that it is visible from the passenger area.

Inspection of Vehicles for Hire and Issuance of Inspection Sticker

All vehicles for hire to be used by a licensee in the City of Chamblee shall be inspected annually and approved by either the City or the County Police Department. Once a vehicle meets the requirements of the inspection, a City of Chamblee inspection sticker will be affixed to the left side of the windshield. The city inspection sticker is proof that the vehicle met the licensing and insurance requirements at the time of license issuance and that the vehicle passed the last vehicle inspection. There is a $50 fee for each vehicle inspection sticker issued.

Inspection stickers are not transferable from vehicle to vehicle, and fees are non-refundable if the vehicle is wrecked or taken out of service for any reason. The police department must be notified within ten days of any vehicle being taken out of service. Stickers from vehicles taken out of service must be turned in to the police department. Stickers for replacement vehicles or additional vehicles are issued under the same procedures as original inspection stickers.

Vehicles shall be subject to random inspections at any time. Vehicles found to be substandard shall be removed from service immediately and shall be subject to immediate removal of the city vehicle inspection sticker by the police department.
